Keith Cole has been sentenced to 63 years in prison for the murder of an Indianapolis man at a near-northside intersection in October 2020, according to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

Cole was convicted by a jury following a three-day trial for his involvement in the murder of Daniel Baxter on Oct. 8, 2020.

According to video from the incident, Baxter was stopped in his vehicle at a stoplight at East 30th Street and North Keystone Avenue when a second vehicle pulled up behind him.

A man, later identified as Cole, exited the passenger side of the vehicle and approached Baxter’s vehicle before firing five shots at him, according to authorities.

A lieutenant with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department saw Baxter’s vehicle crash at an intersection on North Keystone. Baxter was inside the vehicle, unresponsive and dying from gunshot wounds.

Security footage from Baxter’s apartment showed the vehicle Cole was in following Baxter’s vehicle as it left the complex. Baxter was killed about three minutes later.

Investigators located the gun used in the incident wrapped in a plastic bag in a trash can at Cole’s residence. Firearm forensics determined a fired bullet from the scene and two collected during the autopsy matched the gun found at Cole’s home.
