Attorneys interested in representing victims of domestic violence in court can learn about providing pro bono civil assistance during a continuing legal education program offered by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana.

Kerry Hyatt Bennett, legal counsel for the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, will lead the training session from 10:30 a.m. to noon CST Aug. 30 at the Hammond Federal Building. The 1½-hour CLE will teach lawyers about providing civil assistance to domestic violence victims and survivors at a modest-means hourly rate.

The CLE is free to attend, but space is limited and is open only to attorneys practicing in Indiana. Registration must be submitted by Aug. 23 to [email protected].

The goal of the training  is to “increase attorney awareness and participation in the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s (ICADV) Satellite Attorney Program,” which represents domestic violence victims.

In addition to Hyatt Bennett, Northern District Chief Judge Theresa L. Springmann will offer opening remarks.

The CLE will be held in the Jury Assembly Room, Room 2500, of the federal building, located at 5400 Federal Plaza, Hammond, 46320. Brunch will be served.
