The following 7th Circuit Court of Appeals opinions were posted after IL deadline Thursday:
John W. Kimbrough v. Ron Neal

18-3145, -3153
Appeals from the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, Indianapolis Division. Judge William T. Lawrence.
Civil. Reverses the grant of John Kimbrough’s petition for writ of habeas corpus after he was denied post-conviction relief in state court on his 80-year sentence for child molesting. Finds a federal court considering a habeas petition under 28 U.S.C. § 2254(d) cannot disagree with a state court’s resolution of a state law issue.

Peter Daza v. State of Indiana, et al.
18-3102
Appeal from the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, Indianapolis Division. Chief Judge Jane Magnus‐Stinson.
Civil. Affirms summary judgment for the State of Indiana in former Indiana Department of Transportation employee Peter Daza’s lawsuit after his termination. Finds the district court did not err in determining that Daza failed to show that any of his alleged protected activities or political affiliation motivated his firing.

Friday opinions
Indiana Court of Appeals
In the Matter of the Adoption of: J.K. (Minor Child), T.L. v. B.K. and Br.K. (mem. dec.)
19A-AD-911
Adoption. Affirms the order granting Br.K.’s petition to adopt J.K. Finds Br.K. proved by clear and convincing evidence that mother T.L.’s consent was not required and further proved that the adoption is in J.K.’s best interests.

Samuel Otto Dean v. Denise Darlene Dean (mem. dec.)
19A-DC-985
Domestic relations with children. Affirms the dissolution decree between Samuel and Denise Dean. Finds the Owen Circuit Court did not abuse its discretion in its treatment of $122,735 in equity in the marital residence, or in dividing the marital estate so that Samuel received 35% and Denise received 65%.
