Subscribe NowThe U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary approved by voice vote five nominees for U.S. attorney, including the nominee for the Northern District of Indiana, Thursday. The full Senate on a voice vote also confirmed Josh Minkler as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Indiana.
Committee members approved Thomas Kirsch II for U.S. attorney in the Northern District of Indiana. His nomination now moves to the Senate for a confirmation vote. If approved, he would replace acting U.S. attorney Clifford Johnson, who took over after David Capp resigned in March.
Kirsch currently is a partner at the Chicago firm of Winston & Strawn LLP, where he focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, corporate internal investigations, white collar criminal defense, securities litigation, regulatory defense and appeals and critical motions. Before joining the firm in 2008, he served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Northern District of Indian from 2001-2008.
As expected, the committee members delayed a vote on Amy Coney Barrett, the nominee to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Barrett, a professor at Notre Dame Law School, was scheduled to be considered Thursday, but votes on her and the other judicial candidates were held over until next week.
Minkler had served as interim U.S. attorney for the Southern District after Joe Hogsett resigned to successfully run for mayor of Indianapolis.
