A Lake County Superior Court judge will retire at the end of next month, prompting the Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission to begin the process of selecting his successor.

The vacancy will occur April 30 when Judge William E. Davis retires from his position in Lake Superior Court, Civil Division, Room Five.

Indiana Supreme Court Justice and commission chair Geoffrey Slaughter announced that applications to fill Davis’ seat on the bench are now available online. Applications must be submitted through the Indiana Courts Portal by noon CT April 8. Public comment is also welcomed and may be sent by email to [email protected] no later than noon CT April 22.

Applicants are expected to be interviewed by the commission in May in Crown Point.  After the interviews are complete, the commission will send the names of three finalists to Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, who will select the next judge from the three most highly qualified candidates.

Davis’ retirement marks the fourth judicial vacancy in Lake County in less than a year, with the most recent Lake County Superior vacancy created when Judge Diane Kavadias Schneider announced her retirement. Three finalists have been selected as her potential successor, and Holcomb has 60 days after receiving written evaluations of the finalists to make the appointment to the bench.
