The Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission has been granted its request to immediately suspend a Lake County medical malpractice attorney for alleged misconduct.

A verified emergency petition was filed by the commission against Schererville attorney Raymond Gupta, asserting that Gupta engaged in misconduct that may cause his continued practice of law during the pendency of a disciplinary investigation or proceeding “to pose a substantial threat of harm to the public, clients, potential clients, or the administration of justice.”

In filed response, Gupta conceded an interim suspension was warranted, but requested that the effective date of an interim suspension be delayed for a short period of time. However, he was suspended from the practice of law in Indiana effective immediately, pursuant to a Tuesday Indiana Supreme Court order.

Gupta has been ordered to fulfill the duties of a suspended attorney under Admission and Discipline Rule 23(26). His suspension will continue until further order of the court, or until a final resolution of his underlying disciplinary action.

The attorney, of Ray Gupta & Associates, LLC, was admitted to the practice of law in 1995. Gupta has been the subject of two disciplinary cases since 2017, both of which are now concluded, according to the Indiana Roll of Attorneys.

The nature of Gupta’s alleged misconduct was not disclosed in Tuesday’s order.
