A series of proposed rules concerning pretrial services is up for public review and comment, the Indiana Judicial Conference Board of Directors has announced.

The Indiana Judicial Conference published the proposed rules for certification of pretrial services in Indiana courts on Friday.  It is currently seeking public comment on the proposed rules, which would establish a multidisciplinary pretrial policy team and include certification procedures, staff requirements, and the development of a pretrial procedure manual, among other things.

The proposed rules, which provide a framework for the pretrial application of evidence-based practices, will apply to any entity that provides or intends to provide certified pretrial services to arrestees and pretrial defendants pursuant to Indiana Code 35-33-8 and the proposed rules.

Members of the bench, bar and public who wish to comment on the proposed rules must do so no later than noon (EST) on Nov. 1. Comments can be submitted online or via mail to Judicial Conference Board of Directors c/o Diane Mains, Indiana Office of Court Services, 251 N. Illinois St., Suite 800, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
