The Lake County Bar Association will hold an in-person robing ceremony in honor of the newest judge of the Lake Superior Court later this month.

Judge Natalie Bokota’s robing ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. July 22 at Gamba Ristorante in Merrillville.

Gov. Eric Holcomb in December announced Bokota would fill a vacancy on the Lake Superior Court created when Judge Clarence Murray retired from the Criminal Division in December.

Bokota had previously served as a Lake Superior Court magistrate judge for 20 years, hearing criminal matters and playing a role in the revision of the county’s pretrial release standards. Before becoming a magistrate judge in 2000, Bokota was a deputy prosecutor with the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office for nine years.

Holcomb selected Bokota to succeed Murray after the Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission interviewed 10 applicants to fill the vacancy.  Three magistrate judges – Bokota, Jeffrey Miller I and Timothy Ormes – were selected as finalists for the position and were submitted to Holcomb’s office for final consideration.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the robing ceremony. The individual cost to attend is $40 for Lake County Bar Association members and $60 non-LCBA members.

Payment and sponsorship information is available at www.lakecountybar.com.
