Senior judges are presiding over trial courts in two northern Indiana counties due to judicial vacancies resulting from the death of a judge and another’s inability to serve due for health reasons.

Senior Judge Karen A. Springer is presiding in Kosciusco Superior Court 1 while Senior Judge G. David Laur is presiding in the Noble Circuit Court. Both senior judgeships took effect Dec. 28 and will remain in effect until further order of the court.

Springer took her post after the death on Dec. 9 of Judge David C. Cates. The Office of Gov. Eric Holcomb is accepting applications through Jan. 19 to permanently fill Cates’ seat.

In Noble County, Judge Michael J. Kramer is currently unable to perform his judicial duties due to health reasons, the order appointing Laur says.

Both Springer and Laur will be compensated at the same rate as a regular judge.

The orders appointing Springer and Laur are available online.
