The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana has proposed changes to rules governing requests for initial extensions of time.

The proposed amendment would make procedural and notice changes to Local Rule 6-1 regarding extensions of time, particularly for automatic initial extensions.

Additionally, the proposed amendment would require a party requesting an extension that is not an automatic initial extension of time to state the reasons for a requested extension and explain why those reasons constitute good cause, or excusable neglect if the motion is made after a deadline has expired.

Comments on the rule may be submitted via mail or email by Oct. 20. They may be mailed to Roger A. G. Sharpe, Clerk of Court, United States District Court, Birch Bayh Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, 46 E. Ohio St., Room 105 Indianapolis, IN 46204. Comments also may be emailed to [email protected].
