Subscribe NowIndiana Supreme Court justices will travel to Parke Heritage High School on Tuesday to hear oral arguments in the civil negligence case of Cavanaugh’s Sports Bar & Eatery, Ltd. v. Eric Porterfield, 18A-CT-1814.
The Supreme Court holds approximately 60 oral arguments in its courtroom at the Indiana statehouse in Indianapolis each year, occasionally scheduling arguments outside the capital.
The Parke County arguments will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the cafetorium of Parke Heritage High School, 506 N Beadle Street, Rockville. The 50-minute argument is open to the press and public, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Nearly 400 students from Attica High School, Clay City Jr./Sr. High School, North Putnam High School, Parke Heritage High School and Seeger Junior/Senior High School will sit in on the oral arguments.
Transfer was granted in the case in September after the Indiana Court of Appeals affirmed Cavanaugh’s failed to prove it had no duty to protect a patron who was seriously injured in a fight at closing time in the bar’s parking lot.
The arguments will be webcast live by the high school and will be uploaded to the Indiana Supreme Court website.
