Taft merged with Mrachek Law, an 18-lawyer trial team based in West Palm Beach and Stuart.
“This is another very targeted move for Taft that further strengthens and expands our position among Florida’s most affluent markets—where our clients are doing more business and spending more time each year,” said Robert Hicks, Taft’s chairman and managing partner, who is based in Indianapolis.
Earlier this month, the firm announced more growth in the region by welcoming private client partners Andrew Krause and John Paul Bratcher to a new office in Naples, Florida.
The firm said lawyers from Mrachek Law will bring their experience in commercial disputes, bankruptcy proceedings, intellectual property and trade secrets disputes, and product liability litigation.
“As part of Taft, we’ve worked closely together to ensure a smooth transition for our clients, attorneys, and staff, while enhancing our ability to deliver even greater value in the market,” said Alan Rose, Taft’s Florida Chairman and West Palm Beach Partner-in-Charge, in a written statement. “We have received a great response throughout our market about this combination and we’re excited about the opportunities ahead for our growing platform and we are eager to start this next phase,”
Taft’s other major expansion move this year came in January when it merged with Denver-based Sherman & Howard.
So far this year, Taft said, it has added more than 200 attorneys to its team.
Taft ranks 79th among the nation’s largest 100 law firms based on gross revenue, according to the Am Law 100.
In the Indianapolis market, Taft has 172 attorneys, making it the second-largest law firm in the area, according to Indianapolis Business Journal research.
