Two men were sentenced to a combined 44 years in federal prison for their roles in a string of armed robberies at Indianapolis businesses in the summer of 2020.

Adam Reed, 25, of North Carolina, was sentenced to 29 years after pleading guilty to 10 counts of interference with commerce by robbery and four counts of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

William Dodd, 23, of Indianapolis, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of interference with commerce by robbery and two counts of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

Together or with Reed acting alone, the two men robbed a total of 10 Indianapolis businesses, authorities say.

“For a month, these criminals terrorized innocent employees and customers across Indianapolis, holding their victims at gunpoint as they wondered if they’d ever see their loved ones again,” Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, said in written remarks. “No one should fear for their lives simply because they went shopping or to work. The serious federal prison sentences imposed here demonstrate that IMPD, the FBI, and our federal prosecutors are committed to protecting our communities from gun violence and holding armed criminals accountable.”

Here’s a rundown of Reed’s and Dodd’s alleged activities as described by the U.S. Attorney’s Office:

August 17, 2020: The two robbed employees at gunpoint at El Rey Del Taco on North High School Road. The men demanded money from the cash register and robbed three employees of cash from their own wallets.

August 19, 2020: The two robbed a Dollar General on North Arlington Avenue and Dodd pointed a gun at an employee. The men emptied the store’s register and safe.

August 25, 2020: Reed robbed a Dollar General store on 38th Street and North College Avenue at gunpoint.

August 28, 2020: Reed robbed a Dollar General on South Emerson Avenue at gunpoint.

September 6, 2020: Reed robbed a Family Dollar on East Morris Street at gunpoint.

September 8, 2020: Reed robbed a Boost Mobile on East Washington Street at gunpoint.

September 10, 2020: Reed and Dodd robbed an O’Reilly Auto Parts on East Raymond Street.

September 14, 2020: Reed robbed a Family Dollar on East Washington Street at gunpoint.

September 15, 2020: On his own, Reed robbed a T-Mobile store on East Washington Street and a Dollar General on English Avenue. During the robbery at T-Mobile, Reed fired shots into the store’s front door after an employee said she had called the police. During the robbery at Dollar General, Reed held the store manager at gunpoint and used her as a shield to get to the back of the store.
