Dickson to be sworn in Aug. 6
Brent Dickson will be formally sworn in as chief justice of the Indiana Supreme Court Aug. 6. Gov. Mitch Daniels will administer the oath.
NDLS clinic to participate in patent law pilot project

The Indiana Supreme Court has accepted the resignation of the Indianapolis attorney who pleaded guilty earlier this year to theft from two clients.
Darden retirement ceremony July 25
The Indiana Court of Appeals will celebrate Judge Carr Darden’s 18 years of service at a retirement ceremony July 25. Darden is leaving the court because will turn 75 Saturday, the age of mandatory retirement. He will continue to serve as a senior judge.
Evansville senior judge dies
Judge Thomas “Tom” Lockyear, the man who was appointed to Vanderburgh Superior Court in 1985 to replace former Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard, died Wednesday.
Southern District IFCD names new executive director
Criminal defense attorney Monica Foster has been chosen by the Indiana Federal Community Defenders Inc.’s board of directors as the agency’s new executive director in the Southern District of Indiana. Foster will replace Bill Marsh, who is retiring later this summer.
Indiana seeks to overturn EPA decision on air quality in Lake, Porter counties
Gov. Mitch Daniels and Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller said Wednesday they will appeal the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to designate Lake and Porter counties as nonattainment regarding ozone.

Comment needed on bankruptcy local rule changes
The United States Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of Indiana is seeking comment on proposed amendments to its local rules. The changes include references to the local rules of the District Court.
Court launches 2012 retention site
The Indiana Supreme Court’s Division of State Court Administration has designed a retention website for voters to learn about the six appellate judges up for retention this November.
Justice David to head panel at NWI pro bono event
Indiana Justice Steven David, appellate Judge Melissa May and lawyers and judges from Pro Bono District A, will be among the presenters at a day-long CLE event July 27 at Valparaiso University Law School. “A Potpourri of Timely Topics” is co-sponsored by the law school and NWI Volunteer Lawyers Inc., the District A pro bono project.

US complaint: Plymouth reservist deprived of benefits
A U.S. Air Force reservist was illegally denied longevity pay when he returned to his job as a police officer in Plymouth, according to a federal complaint.
Payment changes for appellate filing fees in Northern District
Beginning Monday, the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Indiana will require online credit card payments, via CM/ECF, for filing fees associated with civil and criminal notices of appeal.
42 members of Indianapolis motorcycle club indicted
In what has been described by Southern District U.S. Attorney Joseph Hogsett as the largest federal organized crime prosecution in Indianapolis history, 42 members of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club in Indianapolis have been indicted on various offenses, including extortion and drug charges.
Deadline to accept State Fair settlement extended
The Office of the Indiana Attorney General, at the request of attorneys representing claimants in lawsuits stemming from the stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair in August 2011, has moved the deadline to respond to a settlement offer to Aug. 1. The original deadline was Friday.
