An off-duty Plainfield police officer responding to an emergency call has been arrested for allegedly driving drunk, authorities said. Patrick Tucker, 33, was among several officers responding to a situation Friday, according to the Plainfield Police Department.

Elkhart woman pleads guilty to fatally shooting man

A northern Indiana woman has pleaded guilty in the fatal 2018 shooting of a man whose body was dumped in a wooded area. Cindy Goodwin, 52, pleaded guilty Thursday in Elkhart Circuit Court to one count of murder in the slaying of Johnny Mullins, 50.

Civil. Reverses the denial of disability benefits to Gail Martin, finding a second administrative law judge’s decision was not supported by substantial evidence. Orders the award of benefits for Martin, finding her disabled.

7th Circuit reverses denial of disability benefits, awards benefits in ‘rare step’

In taking what it called a rare step, the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals has ordered an award of disability benefits to a woman who was previously denied her request for them. The 7th Circuit concluded an administrative law judge’s decision denying her request was not supported by substantial evidence.

Reversal: Relief granted for ineffective assistance of counsel in rape case

A man sentenced to 145 years after he was convicted of sexually assaulting his fiancé has been granted post-conviction relief on appeal. The Indiana Court of Appeals concluded the man was entitled to relief based on his appellate counsel’s ineffectiveness.
