The Indiana State Bar Association is looking for attorneys to help answer legal questions of Hoosiers affected by this month’s flooding. Flood victims can call the bar association’s toll-free number to receive free legal assistance for issues relating to the flooding. Legal Aid receives $9,000
The Tippecanoe County Bar Association has granted $9,000 to the Legal Aid Corporation of Tippecanoe County.The bar association decided at its March 3 meeting to give Legal Aid $8,000 now and an additional $1,000 in September if bar association’s finances allow. Legal Aid is a non-profit United Way agency that provides legal assistance for low-income residents of Tippecanoe County with family-law issues.

A former Marion Superior judge and deputy prosecutor died May 2 after a long battle with cancer. A Bloomington attorney with an eight-decade career in law died July 17 at the age of 99. Sylvan W. Tackitt practiced law in Bloomington since 1933. The native Hoosier graduated from Indiana University School of Law in 1933 and began to practice with his mentor, attorney Robert Miller. Tackitt became Monroe County prosecutor in 1942. State bar offers 4-day work week
To help with rising gas prices, the Indiana State Bar Association is offering its employees the option of working just four days a week, although the office will remain open five days a week.About half of the bar association’s 18 employees have taken advantage of the change, allowing them to work four extended days instead of five days with typical business hours.
