Cynthia L. Oetjen has been named to fill the Marion Superior Court vacancy created by Judge Lisa Borges’ retirement, Gov. Eric Holcomb announced Monday.
Oetjen is currently a deputy prosecutor in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office and serves as the executive director of the Child Advocacy Center. She’s been with the prosecutor’s office since 2003, handling domestic violence, sexual assault and major felony cases.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Oetjen was a small business entrepreneur for 10 years. She also served in the Indiana National Guard for five years.
Oetjen has an undergraduate degree from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and a J.D. from the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law. She was admitted to the Indiana bar in 2003.
She will be sworn in as a Marion Superior Court judge on a date to be determined.
Oetjen was one of three finalists submitted to Holcomb as possible successors to Borges, who retired Dec. 31. The other two finalists were Marion County Magistrate Judges David Hooper and Jennifer Haley Springer.
