The names of three nominees vying to fill an upcoming Marion County judicial vacancy have been released, the Marion County Judicial Selection Committee announced Tuesday.

Finalists selected to fill a spot left by retiring Judge Lisa Borges are Marion County Magistrate Judges David Hooper and Jennifer Haley Springer, as well as Cynthia Oetjen, a deputy prosecutor in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. Gov. Eric Holcomb will consider each of the three nominees before selecting a replacement.

The committee live-streamed interviews of 10 candidates on Tuesday and met then in executive session to deliberate. Under state law, the committee must submit to the governor a list of nominees to fill judicial vacancies in Marion County.

The committee, chaired by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Mark Massa and vice-chaired by Court of Appeals Chief Judge Cale Bradford, consists of 14 members. Under state law, the commission must submit to the governor a list of three candidates with written evaluations of each candidate.

Holcomb has 60 days to make an appointment after officially receiving the list of nominees.
