Interviews to succeed Judge Derek Molter on the Court of Appeals will be held Sept. 27 in Indianapolis.
Molter is leaving the Court of Appeals on Sept. 1, when he will be sworn in as the 111th justice of the Indiana Supreme Court.
The JNC will conduct the first round of interviews to find his successor as follows:
9:30 -9:50 a.m.: Paul C. Sweeney of Ice Miller LLP
9:50 -10:10 a.m.: Judge Dana J. Kenworthy, Grant Superior Court
10:10 -10:30 a.m.: Zachary J. Stock of Zachary J. Stock Attorney At Law P.C.
10:45 -11:05 a.m.: Judge Lisa L. Swaim, Cass Superior Court
11:05 -11:25 a.m.: Carol N. Joven of Williams & Piatt LLC
11:25 -11:45 a.m.: Brad A. Catlin of Williams & Piatt LLC
Noon -12:20 p.m.: Andrew R. Falk of the Indiana Public Defender Commission
12:20-12:40 p.m.: Judge Jennifer P. Harrison, Marion Superior Court
1:50-2:10 p.m.: Magistrate Judge Stephen R. Creason, Marion Circuit Court
2:10 -2:30 p.m.: Judge Ryan K. Gardner, Marion Superior Court
2:45 -3:05 p.m.: Judge Paul A. Felix, Hamilton Circuit Court
3:05-3:25 p.m.: Judge Marc T. Rothenberg, Marion Superior Court
Those who applied for the soon-to-be vacant position are all Indiana residents living in the 2nd Appellate District who have been members of the Indiana bar for at least 10 years or have served as an Indiana judge for at least five years. Each candidate had to submit applications, along with writing samples, transcripts and letters of recommendation, that are available for public review.
The interviews are open to the public and will be held in downtown Indianapolis in the Supreme Court Conference Room at the Indiana Statehouse, 200 W. Washington St., Room 319.
Following the initial interviews, the seven-member JNC, led by Indiana Chief Justice Loretta Rush, will deliberate in executive session to select finalists, who will be asked back for a second interview at a later date.
The JNC will then select three finalists, whose names will be submitted to Gov. Eric Holcomb. Holcomb will have 60 days to name Molter’s successor on the lower appellate court.
A retirement ceremony will be held for retiring Justice Steven David, whom Molter is succeeding, on Aug. 30, one day before he officially retires from the high court.
Molter will be sworn in on Sept. 1, with a ceremonial swearing-to follow at a later date.
