The Indiana Supreme Court is making interim changes related to remote proceedings and considering others. Interim Administrative Rule 14 for Remote Proceedings was recently published to be effective Jan. 1, 2023, and last week the Indiana Supreme Court published a proposed amendment to Administrative Rule 14 for comment. The proposed amendment would give trial judges broader discretion to conduct remote hearings. The court indicates it “will use this interim rule and feedback from the public, bench, and Bar prior to issuing a new rule.”

In a departure from its norm, the court did not specify a 30-day public comment period and instead is extending the comment period to seek as much input from the public as possible. The court’s Emergency Order Permitting Expanded Remote Proceedings will expire Dec. 31, 2022.
