23 candidates to interview next month for Welch, Flowers vacancies on Marion Superior Court

The Marion County Judicial Selection Committee will conduct two days of interviews next month for two vacancies on the Marion Superior Court, including the vacancy created by the death of Judge Shatrese Flowers.

The committee will interview a total of 23 candidates on Friday, Dec. 15, and Monday, Dec. 18 in the Supreme Court Conference Room at the Indiana Statehouse.

Flowers, of Court 28, Criminal Division, died Nov. 5, while Judge Heather Welch, of Court 1, Civil Division, is retiring in February. That creates vacancies in the Marion Superior Court Criminal and Family divisions.

The interviews will be open to the public.

After the interviews, the committee will meet in executive session before holding a public vote on which applicants will advance to the next step in the process of filling the vacancy. Ultimately, the committee will submit six names to Gov. Eric Holcomb — three for each vacancy — who will make the final appointments.
