Ice Miller LLP attorney Donald M. Snemis has been named as the commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. He will begin his tenure Jan. 6.
In announcing the appointment Dec. 17, Gov. Mike Pence praised Snemis’ leadership skills.
“Under Don Snemis’ leadership, I am confident the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles will work each day to identify innovative solutions, serve Hoosiers and ensure fiscal integrity for Indiana taxpayers,” Pence said.
Snemis, a 1988 graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School, is a partner at Ice Miller’s Indianapolis office where he concentrates his practice on business and environmental litigation.
The attorney will be stepping into the top spot at the BMV as the agency continues to untangle itself from a payment scandal. Cohen & Malad LLP discovered earlier this year that the agency had been overcharging Hoosiers for driver’s licenses as far back as 2007. The firm filed a class-action lawsuit which was settled in November.
