The (Munster) Times reports that 44-year-old Darren Vann of Gary was scheduled to appear before a Lake County judge Wednesday after indicating he wanted to represent himself. Court records show one of Vann's attorneys filed a motion to cancel the hearing because Vann no longer wants to represent himself.
Vann is charged with murder in the deaths of 19-year-old Afrikka Hardy and 35-year-old Anith Jones. Police have said that Vann confessed to killing seven women whose remains were found in October 2014. He has only been charged in the deaths of Hardy and Jones.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Vann. His trial is scheduled to begin Jan. 25
