Authorities say a man who was arrested last month in a 1990 attempted rape case in central Indiana has died after leading law enforcement on a chase.

Lebanon police said 50-year-old Todd M. Richardson was arrested Jan. 28 in connection with an attempted rape reported in 1990. The Indianapolis Star reported while he was out on bond in that case, U.S. marshals and Morgan County sheriff's deputies tried to serve him with an arrest warrant in another case Thursday night.

Morgan County Sheriff Robert Downey said Richardson escaped in a vehicle and led authorities on a chase. Downey said Richardson got out of the vehicle and shot himself. Richardson's death is being investigated by Indiana State Police.
