ESPN to argue for Notre Dame records at Supreme Court

ESPN will continue its efforts Tuesday to obtain records regarding incidents involving student athletes from the University of Notre Dame Police Department. The Indiana Supreme Court will hold oral arguments Tuesday morning.

After a St. Joseph County trial court ruled for the ND police department, an Indiana Court of Appeals panel reversed in March, holding the Access to Public Records Act applies to the private university’s police. That same month, Gov. Mike Pence vetoed a bill that would have limited the amount of information private university police department would have to make public.

Justices granted transfer in ESPN, Inc., et al. v. University of Notre Dame Police Department, 71S05-1606-MI-00359, and will hear arguments at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday in the Supreme Court Courtroom in the Indiana Statehouse.
