Faegre Baker Daniels LLP has named longtime Indianapolis attorney Tom Froehle as chairman and managing partner of the international law firm, it announced Wednesday.

Froehle will take over the positions March 1, succeeding Andrew Humphrey, who will reach his term limit after more than five years in those roles. Humphrey will remain a partner at the firm.

Froehle has served as vice chair and chief operating partner at Faegre Baker Daniels ever since Indianapolis-based Bakers & Daniels and Minneapolis-based Faegre & Benson merged in 2012 to form the existing firm.

Before that, he was chief executive partner of Baker & Daniels from 2008 to 2012. He joined Baker & Daniels in 1987 and built his practice in corporate and public finance.

Froehle was unanimously appointed to the leadership positions by the firm’s management board and confirmed by a partner vote.

Firm leaders gave credit to Froehle and Humphrey for working “hand-in-hand for over six years to merge, integrate and grow Faegre Baker Daniels.”

Faegre Baker Daniels employs more than 750 legal and consulting professionals in over a dozen law offices in the United States, Europe and Asia. The firm has more than 400 employees and about 200 attorneys in Indianapolis.

“I look forward to the opportunity to lead a great firm,” Froehle said in a written statement. “Andrew has created a strong foundation and strategic direction for FaegreBD during his tenure as managing partner with focused emphasis on providing world-class legal counsel, combined with extraordinary client service. We are fortunate to have outstanding professionals and a collaborative culture that position us well to thrive in a changing legal landscape. I am excited about our future.”
