The Human Rights Campaign’s 2018 Corporate Equality Index includes several Indiana law firms that are identified as advancing policies and practices to protect LGBTQ workers.

Released today, the 2018 index measures how equitably large private businesses in the United States treat their lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer employees, consumers and investors. The CEI rates companies and law firms on criteria falling under the broad categories of non-discrimination policies, employment benefits, demonstrated competency and accountability for LGBTQ inclusion, public commitment to LGBTQ equality, and responsible citizenship.

“The highly competitive legal field continues to be the sector with the largest number of top-rated employers in the Corporate Equality Index,” said Deena Fidas, director of the HRC Foundation’s Workplace Equality Program. “Law firm leaders know that LGBTQ inclusion is absolutely essential in attracting and retaining top attorneys and staff.”

A number of law firms with Indiana ties earned a score of 100, indicating they satisfied all the inclusion criteria. They are: Faegre Baker Daniels, Frost Brown Todd LLC, Hinshaw & Culbertson, Littler Mendelson PC, Ogletree Deakins Nash Smoak & Stewart, and Quarles & Brady LLP.

Two other Indiana firms — Barnes & Thornburg LLP and Ice Miller LLP — earned a score of 85.
