The Indiana Supreme Court has certified a new senior judge to serve in Indiana courts.

Chief Justice Loretta Rush, acting as chair of the Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission, approved John R. Pera as a senior judge in a Tuesday order. Pera is a former judge of the Lake Superior Court.

Pera, who announced his retirement from the Lake Superior Court bench on June 18, was found to be qualified for appointment as a senior judge pursuant to Indiana Code section 33-23-3-2. Pera’s senior judgeship will run from July 1 through Dec. 31.

Meanwhile, the Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission is accepting applications for qualified attorneys and judicial officers interested in succeeding Pera. Applications are due July 22. More information is available here.
