A Missouri semitrailer driver was in court Thursday to face multiple felony charges resulting from a weekend crash in a construction zone on Interstate 465 that killed an Indianapolis mother and her 18-month-old twin daughters.

Bruce Pollard was charged with three counts of Level 5 felony reckless homicide and one count of Class A misdemeanor reckless operation of a vehicle in a highway work zone, according to information filed by Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry.

Pollard is accused of ignoring multiple warning signs and failing to brake when he struck Alanna Koons’ stationary vehicle, killing her and her daughters, June and Ruby. “Based on the investigation, Pollard’s semitrailer is believed to have been travelling at 65 mph at the time of the crash,” according to a statement from Curry’s office. “The crash occurred within an active construction zone with a speed limit of 45 mph.”

Pollard, 53, of Sturgeon, Missouri, was scheduled to appear Thursday afternoon before Judge Barbara Crawford in Marion Superior Court 1, Criminal Division.
