As the month of October begins, Catholic dioceses around Indiana will be celebrating the annual Red Mass to honor and pray for members of the legal profession.

“In the Red Mass, the Church prays for all those involved in the legal system that they may be guided by the wisdom and grace of the Holy Spirit in all their endeavors,” Indianapolis Archbishop Charles C. Thompson told The Criterion Online Edition. “It is important that we pray and express support for all those in the legal profession, a noble service to the dignity of the person and the common good of society.”

All of the Hoosier dioceses except for Evansville will be holding Red Masses this year, which are open to individuals of all faiths. Also, a majority will be having an event immediately following the service for all attendees.

Below is a schedule of the 2021 Red Masses:

The Diocese of Lafayette will be offering its 6th annual Red Mass at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 4, at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 1207 Columbia St., Lafayette. Bishop Timothy Doherty will be the celebrant. Indiana Chief Justice Loretta Rush is scheduled to attend and her husband, Deacon Jim Rush, will be assisting with the celebration of the mass.

A dinner will follow in Bishop Memorial Hall at the cathedral. The keynote speaker will be Senior Monroe County Judge Marc Kellams, who is a permanent deacon of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. He ministers at Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi Parish in Greenwood and as the coordinator of corrections ministries for the archdiocese.
