Calling all dragon slayers, dungeon explorers, heroes, villains and, of course, intellectual property lawyers! IndyBar will open its gates at 4 p.m. on Aug. 3 for a fantastical event titled “Level Up Your Legal Knowledge: The History of GenCon and IP.” At this event, IndyBar welcomes Brian Lewis, partner at Azora Law and co-owner of Gen Con LLC, and Joel Tragesser, trademark partner at Quarles & Brady. These preeminent scholars have agreed to step away from their dusty tomes for the afternoon so that they may share their arcane knowledge with all members of the fine village of Indianapolis.

Our speakers will engage in an in-depth discussion on the history of Gen Con, as well as of the various intellectual property issues that arise in the context of gaming. Our panelists will examine issues such as the history of Gen Con, source copyright licensing for games, protectability of game mechanics and much more.

If your practice does not focus on intellectual property, there is no need to fret! This informative discussion will be followed by a social event from 5-7 p.m., when you will have the opportunity to share stories of your (legal) adventures, join your Indianapolis colleagues in a board game over a mug of ale and observe the crowds of costumed Gen Con attendees from IndyBar’s downtown location.

As anyone who works in downtown Indianapolis can tell you, each year Gen Con draws a variety of cosplayers and costumed revelers from all over the land. The vast crowds drawn by this beloved faire often quickly fill the prime spots by the windows of Indianapolis’ taverns and inns, meaning it can be difficult to even catch a glimpse of the creative outfits and intricate costumes worn by the festival goers traversing the streets of Indianapolis. In addition to an informative and entertaining panel, this event also will provide the opportunity to unwind with your colleagues and watch the festivities from IndyBar’s prime downtown location (and big windows) on Illinois Street.

This event is open to rogues, warriors, healers and mages alike. So grab a board game and gather your party for what is certain to be an exciting quest!•
