A judge pro tempore has been appointed to the Elkhart Superior Court after the previous judge was confirmed to the federal bench.

Senior Judge Karen Springer will begin serving as judge pro tem in Elkhart Superior Court 4 effective Feb. 26.

Her appointment follows last month’s confirmation of Judge Gretchen S. Lund to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana.

Springer’s service as judge pro tem will continue until further order of the Indiana Supreme Court, according to a Wednesday order signed by Chief Justice Loretta Rush.

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb is currently accepting applications to fill Lund’s vacancy.

Also confirmed last month were Judge Cristal S. Brisco, formerly of the St. Joseph Superior Court and now of the Indiana Northern District Court, and Judge Joshua Kolar, formerly an Indiana Northern District magistrate judge and now a judge of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Applications are also being accepted to replace Brisco in St. Joseph Superior Court 4.

A new magistrate, Judge Abizer Zanzi, has already been appointed to replace Kolar on the Northern District bench.
