Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears on Monday announced his office has upgraded the battery charge against former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports commentator Mark Sanchez following an altercation in downtown Indianapolis on Friday night.

Sanchez now faces a Felony 5 charge of battery, which carries a sentence of one to six years.

Sanchez, who came to Indianapolis to cover Sunday’s NFL game between the Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders, was arrested Saturday following an altercation involving a 69-year-old truck driver in which Sanchez had been stabbed and the truck driver was seriously injured. Sanchez was initially charged with battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all misdemeanors.

The new charging decision was based on information gathered about the altercation and the truck driver’s condition, Mears said.
