The committee interviewed 26 individuals earlier this week and then voted to send two panels of five finalists to the governor.
Eight magistrates made that list. Those include Ross Anderson, Katharine Melnick, Marcia Harper, Terrance Tharpe and Andrew Kobe.
Candidates had to reside in Marion County, be US citizens and be admitted to the practice of law to qualify.
Judges James Osborn and Gary Miller are stepping down later this year.
State law dictates Gov. Mike Braun will now have 60 days to select one candidate for each vacancy, according to Adam Clay, staff attorney for the Supreme Court Office of Communication Education and Outreach. If Braun can’t make the deadline or passes on the decision, it will be left to Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush.
If selected, the annual salary for the judges will start at $185,513, according to Clay.
Under state law, no more than 52% of Marion Superior Court judges can be from the same political party. According to the committee’s announcement, the current vacancies are one Democratic and one Republican.
