Ice Miller LLP is expanding its intellectual property practice with a new office in Philadelphia.

Ice Miller’s Philadelphia office, the firm’s eighth location, will focus on IP practice and will be led by managing partner Frederick Tecce. Tecce, a former assistant U.S. attorney, will lead the firm’s IP work, drawing on his prior experience representing clients in trade secret, patent and other IP cases.

“With today’s developing technology and the emergence of the Internet of Things, protection of IP assets has become more difficult, yet more critical, than ever,” Tecce said in a statement. “I was attracted to Ice Miller’s collaborative team approach and full-service IP practice.”

Tecce will be joined in Philadelphia by partner Aaron Ettelman and of counsel Bryon Wasserman. Ettelman will focus on all aspects of IP rights, particularly chemical and biochemical issues. For his part, Wasserman has argued before the International Trade Commission and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

“Our goal is to strengthen our IP practice in its own right as a complement to our robust corporate practice as well as our Data Security and Privacy Practice and our Internet of Things Industry Group,” Ice Miller Chief Managing Partner Steve Humke said in a statement. “The addition of Fred and his team is a significant step in realizing this goal.”
