Interviews with the six semifinalists selected for an upcoming vacancy on the Indiana Court of Appeals will take place next week.

The Indiana Supreme Court announced the schedule for the May 16 interviews, which will follow a two-day interview process with 12 applicants earlier this months. The Judicial Nominating Commission selected the six semi-finalists after interviewing all 12 applicants to replace retiring Judge Michael Barnes on the morning and afternoon of April 30 and on May 1.

The May 16 interview schedule is as follows:

• 10-10:30 a.m.: Judge Elizabeth F. Tavitas
• 10:30-11 a.m.: Magistrate Judge Deborah A. Domine
• 11-11:30 a.m.: David C. Van Gilder
• 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.: Andrew L. Teel
• 12:15 p.m.-12:45 p.m.: Judge Stephen Hostetler
• 12:45-1 p.m.: Jaime Oss

After the interviews, the JNC, led by Chief Justice Loretta Rush, will meet in executive session to select three finalists whose names will be sent to Gov. Eric Holcomb. Holcomb will then pick one finalist to become the next Court of Appeals judge, replacing Barnes, who is leaving the bench on June 1.

Holcomb’s selection of the next COA judge will mark the second appointment of an appellate judge. Last year he chose former Wabash Superior Judge Christopher Goff to become Indiana’s 110th Supreme Court justice.

The interviews will be open to the public and will be held in Room 319 of the Indiana Statehouse
