Two Red Masses will take place this week for members of the Indiana legal community.

The Notre Dame Red Mass will begin at 5:15 p.m. Monday in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the University of Notre Dame campus. Lawyers, judges and civil government officials along with law and political science students are invited.

Afterward, a buffet reception will start at 6:30 p.m. followed by a lecture at 7 p.m. at Eck Commons in the Eck Hall of Law. The lecturer, Stephen Smith, professor at Hillsdale College, will present, “St. Thomas More on ‘Leading Citizenship’: Developing the Leaders Needed in Stormy Times.”

The Red Mass is hosted by the Rev. Kevin C. Rhoades, Bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend, the Notre Dame Law School, the Department of Political Science, the Interdisciplinary Program in Constitutional Studies and the Saint Thomas More Society of South Bend.

The Saint Thomas More Society of Central Indiana will hold its Red Mass at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 126 W. Georgia St., Indianapolis.

A fundraising dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m. at the Indiana Roof Ballroom, 140 W. Washington St. The keynote speaker will be James Callaghan, CEO of Franciscan Health hospitals. The 2017 recipient of the Person for All Seasons Award will be John Ryan of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
