A judge pro tempore has been appointed to temporarily fill the seat of Lake Superior Judge John R. Pera, who recently announced his plans to retire at the end of this month.

The Indiana Supreme Court announced Pera’s retirement from the Lake Superior Court, Civil Division 6 bench last week, prompting the Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission to begin seeking applicants to succeed Pera. The longtime judge will step down from the bench June 30.

In his place, Senior Judge Thomas W. Webber Sr. has been appointed judge pro tempore effective July 1.

Webber, a retired trial court judge from Porter County, will have authority to discharge all the duties of the judge and will be compensated at the same rate as the regular judge. Webber’s appointment on the bench will remain in effect until further order of the court or until a permanent successor is named.
