Editor’s note: This article has been updated with additional information on the move.

After an almost four-month delay, Marion Superior Court will start operating out of the new Community Justice Campus on the east side of Indianapolis May 2.

All non-jury, in-person court matters will be conducted at the Marion County Community Justice Campus beginning Monday. A week later, starting May 9, all in-person court matters, including jury trials, will be held on the new campus.

However, juvenile delinquency cases will continue to be heard at Marion County Juvenile Detention Center, 2451 N. Keystone Ave.

Marion Superior Court did not release specific details about when the move is taking place, citing security concerns. However, it did clarify that all the superior and circuit court judges are moving to the new campus, including the judges at the juvenile center on Keystone. Those judges and their staff will travel back to the juvenile center only for delinquency hearings.

Initially, the courts had planned to move around the start of 2022, but construction was not complete.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said five of its employees, on average, will be working at the entrance of the new court building at the CJC to screen people as they arrive. Also, the deputies and staff would continue to do the screening at the City-County Building.

According to the sheriff’s office, the law enforcement agency has sufficient deputies and staff to meet security requirements.

Once the phased move-in is complete, all of the Marion County Superior Court operations, with the exception of the Marion County Probation Department, Juvenile Detention Center and its juvenile delinquency hearings will be located on the new campus at 675 Justice Way.

The Marion County Probation Department will have staff at both the Community Justice Campus and the City-County Building.

Also on the campus will be the Marion Circuit Court, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Adult Detention Center and the Assessment and Intervention Center.

The public is encouraged to check or specific details of court proceedings.
