Kocher will be sworn in at the Noblesville courthouse on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
He has served as a prosecutor in Hamilton County for nearly two decades, handling complex criminal cases and leading the office’s day-to-day operations, according to a press release.
“I’m incredibly honored by the trust placed in me by the precinct committeemen,” Kocher said in a public statement. “(Garrison) has been a mentor, a friend, and a role model and I’m excited to continue his work on behalf of the people of Hamilton County.”
Garrison, who had served as the county’s lead prosecutor since 2022, announced his retirement earlier this month, citing recent health concerns that had made it “imperative” for him to act quickly to complete his work.
Before taking on that role, Garrison was a conservative radio talk show host for WIBC.
He was also a member of the prosecuting team that secured a rape conviction of former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson in 1992.
