The Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic in Indianapolis raised more than $40,000 at its annual “Justice for all”
event.
Keynote speaker Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller discussed why public service is important to him at the April 29 benefit.
Josh Abel, clinic executive director, talked about what the clinic does, and former client Kizito Kalima, a Rwandan refugee,
talked about how the NCLC helped him obtain guardianship and eventual adoption of two Rwandan teens who were brought to the
U.S. under false pretenses and were treated poorly.
In 2009, NCLC served more than 12,700 people. It is run by a staff of 25, including eight attorneys, and hundreds of volunteers,
according to a May 10 release from the organization about the event.
“We are so grateful for all those who attended the event and joined us as a sponsor,” Abel said in a statement.
“I am especially grateful to Barnes & Thornburg, Baker & Daniels, and Ice Miller. The funds raised from this
event will help us provide critically needed legal services to our low-income and immigrant neighbors.”
