Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate who was found unresponsive in his Marion County Jail cell.

Thirty-three-year-old Joshua Ellis was found unresponsive by jail staff Saturday afternoon and was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later.

He was arrested in July and was being held on suspicion of three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and one count of marijuana possession with a prior conviction.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office says Ellis' death is being investigated by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Marion County's Forensic Services Agency and its Coroner's Office.

An internal affairs investigation is also being conducted by the sheriff's office.
