Brenda Davis and Franci Gartin know a home can be a place to rest from the struggles of daily living. The two Indianapolis women were settled into their houses, arranged and as welcoming as they each wanted. But then the struggles of the outside world invaded, and they found themselves in danger of losing their own domiciles.
For more than 50 years, the Indianapolis Bar Foundation (IBF) has worked to ensure equal access to justice for all Indianapolis-area residents. In an effort to expand this mission impact on the greater Indianapolis community, applications from local organizations are now being accepted through May 31 for the IBF’s annual Impact Fund grant. The grant will be awarded in August 2019.

Each year, the Women and the Law Division presents its Mentorship Award, which seeks to honor a female legal professional who has exhibited exceptional efforts to be a mentor to other women in the profession. Charlie Bell is my 4-year old, and if feeling 136 years old is feeling young, then yes, he makes me feel very, very, young every single day.

An eviction is often the first step on the path to homelessness for vulnerable Indianapolis residents, but a new program by Indiana Legal Services seeks to decrease this likelihood by providing legal representation to those facing eviction. This innovative project has been named the recipient of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation’s 2018 Anniversary Impact Fund Grant of $50,000.
