For the 15th year in a row, the Indianapolis Bar Foundation (IBF) hosted a successful Lawyer Links Golf Classic at the Country Club of Indianapolis this July.
After two years of research, planning, searching and negotiation, it’s finally here: the new home of the Indianapolis Bar Association and Foundation.
Retired Admiral William McRaven’s 2014 commencement address advice was this: “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed … If you can’t do the little things right, you will never do the big things right.” This advice finds perfect application in our profession, and I have been thinking lately about the importance of perfecting our process.
The Indianapolis Bar Foundation (IBF) Nominating Committee has announced its slate of officers for 2020, naming Raegan Gibson of Paganelli Law Group to the position of First Vice President. Gibson will assume the role of president-elect in 2021 and will lead the IBF as president in 2022.

My wife and I decided nearly 30 years ago that the most fun parents (the ones whose homes were always overflowing with kids and their friends), were disposed to say “yes” more than “no.” We decided that unless we had a really good reason, we would try to be “yes” parents. The Center for Victim and Human Rights (CVHR) has been named the 2019 recipient of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation’s Impact Fund grant of $35,000. CVHR will use the funding to create the Pro Bono Attorney Project (PBAP) for Marion County-area attorneys to provide limited-scope advice and counsel to pro se victims filing a petition for a protective order.

Many charitable organizations have ups and downs when it comes to fundraising, and I’ve seen a few of my own personal fundraising hits and misses over the years outside of the IBF. Focused on programming, networking and business development opportunities specifically tailored to this large group of attorneys, the division will aim to give solo and small firm practitioners a home within the IndyBar.
An Indianapolis attorney with a long resume of bar association leadership is now representing a three-state contingent on the American Bar Association’s Board of Governors.
In 2018, the Indianapolis Bar Foundation (IBF) awarded its $50,000 Impact Fund Grant to Indiana Legal Services (ILS), an outstanding organization that provides legal services to the poor and indigent. Recently, ILS attorney Michael Hurst reported the group’s progress and use of that grant to create a new program to help people avoid eviction.

In an effort to expand this mission impact on the greater Indianapolis community, applications from local organizations are now being accepted through May 31 for the IBF’s annual Impact Fund grant.
The power of giving is tremendous. Giving transforms the provider as much or more than the recipient. The Indianapolis Bar Foundation is dedicated to providing attorneys the opportunity to give to our community. Our mission is clear: raise money to help those in need in central Indiana.
Samuel A. Fuller, a former Indianapolis lawyer who had been active in the Indianapolis and Indiana state bar associations, died May 10 at his home in Sun City Center, Florida. He was 94.

Once armed with the facts, the lawyer may then apply the rules to the facts. Whether ultimately successful or not, a well-reasoned application of the law to the proper set of facts is one of the most satisfying efforts in our profession.
